Greetings OHS Alumni! 

It doesn't seem to matter whether we live in the same community or in different states, the demands on our time make it all too easy to lose touch with each other. So of course, the upcoming Fourth of July Alumni weekend will be the perfect opportunity to reconnect with former classmates and old friends. It's also a great opportunity to learn about some exciting things happening around here. 

We hope you join us to reconnect with the past, enjoy the present and envision the future with the Valley County Community Foundation Fund and The Golden Husk.

The Valley County Museum will be opening each weekday from 1:00-4:00 pm beginning May 22.

A new feature at the museum is the Silent Auction from May 22 - July 2. On the Silent Auction are pictures, a quilt, home decor, collectible tractors and other items. Money from the Silent Auction will be used for roof repair, museum upkeep and materials for preservation of items donated to the museum. Stop in and place a bid now. Bidding closes alumni weekend.

The Ord Area Chamber of Commerce and Valley County Economic Development office will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. 

Celebrate Nebraska's 150th Anniversary with a live band at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park. 

Enjoy a free hotdog lunch from 12:00-1:30 pm, kids games and live entertainment by Flatwater Highway at 2:00 pm. 

A Nebraska Park Permit is required and available at the Post Headquarters. No admission for attending the program. 

Enjoy Ord's fireworks display beginning at dusk at Bussell Park.

All children ages birth to toddler years are welcome to attend.  During story time children and their parents and or caregivers will gather on the main level of the library, listen to stories, sing songs and participate in activities.  

 

Information you need to know before the fun begins:

 

• A registration form is needed for each child to participate. 

 

• Plan on attending story times with your children or have another adult with your children at all times.  This is a very young group and will require all hands on deck to make the program go smoothly.  It is also a wonderful opportunity to have constructive time to interact with your child.  

 

• Two times are offered to accommodate all parents' schedules. It will be the same program during each time frame on the same day.  

 

• Like us on our Facebook page – “Ord Township Library” to see glimpses of your kids from time to time.  

 

• A library membership is not required to attend Story Time.  However, anyone wishing to check out books from the library must have a library card membership. Membership is free to those who live within Ord Township.  If you live outside of a three mile radius of Ord, there will be a patron fee to check out books.

 

• With such a wide range of ages attending, you will have to determine your child's ability to participate.  Maybe they aren't ready to sit in a chair and do a craft but they can sit for 10 minutes to listen to stories.  When your child is done please feel free to take them home.  

 

• We are offering this program during times that the library is normally closed to devote our entire attention to the children.

Bring the kiddos and explore the history and offerings of our great state as part of Nebraska's 150th Anniversary Mobile Children's Musuem.

All are welcome and the event is free to attend. 

The museum is specially designed for children ages 5-12 however any child (or child at heart) will enjoy this opportunity! 

Ord Museum Hours: 
Friday, July 21: 4:00-8:00 pm 
Saturday, July 22: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm 
Sunday, July 23: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm 

Local volunteers will be needed to man the displays at the museum. Contact the Ord Area Chamber of Commerce if you are interested in volunteering.

5k-7k Trail Mix Fun Run

A 5K for walkers and runners of all ages and levels, featuring

a level course weaving around beautiful Lake Ericson.

The rural trail includes a mixture of gravel, dirt, sand and

wood chips.

*The 7K trail option will take you through the

trees and hills around the lake.

Funds raised will benefit the conservation and sustainability of Lake Ericson.

Take part in a three person scramble, flighted play tournament hosted by the Ya'll Come Back Saloon. There will be flag prizes and drawings too! Payout is determined based on number of teams.

On Tuesday July 25th, 2017, Valley View Senior Village will be hosting an informative discussion about wound care. Nicole Huffman RN, WCC will be speaking. The discussion is called "Love The Skin You're In - Wound Care Made Easy".

Camp Witness is returning to The Golden Husk for two performances.

The World Has Yet to See is a drama based on a the true story of Jim Elliot, missionary to South America who was speared to death while attempting to make contact with one fo the most dangerous tribes living in the jungles of Ecuador. Jim's widow, Elisabeth Elliot, later spent two years living in teh same village, ministering the forgiveness and love of God to the very tribe members who killed her husband. She is best known for her daily radio program Gateway to Joy, produced in Lincoln, NE, as well as her best-selling book Through Gates of Splendor. 

The second performance, entitled Choices, tells of a young woman who has made a choice that draws her to God. 

You are invited to experience the phenomenal talents of professional ballet dancer, Brianna Lange, at her Senior Benefit for the Ord Food Pantry. Brianna Lange is the daughter of Duane & Kathy Lange of Ord. She will be performing with Michigan Classical Ballet in Ann Arbor, MI for the 2017-2018 season as Company Trainee and furthering her dance studies at the Academy of Russian Classical Ballet. 

Her performance will also feature performances by many of her family members, treating us to vocal selections accompanied by guitar, piano solos, fiddling and tap dancing.
